Insulation and Thermal conductivity

Download Article

Insulating Properties

Thin Layer Insulation

ThermaCoat 300 and 400 are 7-10 times more insulating than the typical paint

Microspheres

The porous structures of the microspheres in our coatings provide outstanding insulating properties.

Thin Coating Insulation

Thin coating insulation: • moderate absolute insulation performance • high relative improvement per thickness • the first couple of mm of insulation are the most effective ones

Knudsen Effect

Our microspheres have a thermal conductivity smaller than that of the gas they contain. This is caused by the Knudsen effect, a reduction of thermal conductivity in gases when the size of the cavity encompassing the gas becomes comparable to the mean free path.
